Meet Me

A photo of my Homestate, Colorado. The most beautiful place in the world.

A photo of my second home, Boston Mass. This is one of my favorite photos ever. Taken in the fall in the Arnold Arboretum.

Who is Shelby Miles and why does she have a blog?

I feel it's only right to give a bit of information about myself before fully starting this blog.
SO, hello! My name is Shelby Miles. I'm a young, twenty-something. I go to school at Boston University, I'm majoring in Advertising, and I am an up-and-coming Junior. There. Boring stuff.

This summer (2011) I have been living in the grand, and the scary, New York City. I am working this summer as an advertising intern at W Magazine - A women's fashion magazine (if you haven't heard of W Magazine, you're probably not a true fashionista or are not interested in style. If this is the case you should stop reading my blog...NOW.) And also dabbling, part-time in my retail job at J. Crew.

However, I have been inspired by many blogs, many diary-style blogs and this summer I finally decided to embark on a little blog-venture of my own. I want to share my life, my likes, my trials and my errors with whomever would like to follow.

My blog is no more than a "lifestyle" blog. I am using this not only as a means for my personal documentation but also as a resource for stylish, twenty-something's looking to have fun, try new things, and find out a little bit about the places I have been. Frankly, I have things I would like to share with people, some girlie, some foodie and some "stylie." I may not be the most interesting person in the world, but I can have some fun trying.

So conclusively, this is The Style Seed, my blog. Just think of it as a seed of style -- WARNING: very corny metaphors coming your way. This special seed wants to bloom, grow and become something beautiful. This special seed is a girl. And so, my dear friends, my blog is here to help you grow, explore, become something beautiful and live happily. Because, in reality, aren't we all just little Style Seeds? I know I am.

Also, all photos on my blog are taken by me, Shelby Miles, unless otherwise noted. For example, if you see a picture of me, where I am not holding a camera, this probably is a picture that was not taken by me. I will give credit where credit is due.
The most recent photo I have of myself. (taken by Tucker Bliss - Check him out on Vimeo!) Here I am all dolled up - too much makeup and a short dress. Pearls from J. Crew, dress from Urban Outfitters and Hair by hairspray and my very own hands.

A day on the Upper East Side

First, I must say, this is my new favorite nail polish color O.P.I Mod About You. It's bright, cute, pink and perfect for my day in Central Park.

Today I wore my red, vintage, seagull-patterned sundress from Buffalo Exchange in Denver. Red is a perfect summer color and it always helps you stand out.

I am a pescetarian (I don't eat any meat with the exception of occasional fish) and so I am always on the look out for vegetarian or vegan restaurants to fit my diet and taste. My favorite restaurant on the Upper East side, Candle Cafe. It is the first place I came to at the beginning of the summer. They serve all organic and vegan food, with amazing and unique combinations. My favorite thing about Candle Cafe is that even though it is vegan you do not feel like you're only eating soy products - like fake meats. At Candle cafe they pile on the veggies, the real wholesome goodies.
They serve a variety of smoothies. My friend ordered this one, The Strawberry Splash, (Strawberries, Banana, Soy strawberry Ice Cream and orange juice.)

Caylee drinking The Strawberry Splash.
Caylee ordered the Tuscan Lasagna (grilled zucchini, peppers and onions, tofu basil ricotta, tapioca cheese and seitan ragout topped with tomato sauce. Served with sauteed greens.)

I ordered one of the daily specials, The Thai Wrap (spicy peanut grilled tofu, black rice, rice beans, steamed greens, sauteed onions, peppers, cabbage and zucchini wrapped in a spinach tortilla served with edamame salad and spicy peanut dressing) I love, love loved the tofu, wrap and beans. I had never tried black rice until today, and it was probably one of my favorite things about the dish. The spicy peanut dressing was also key. I used it all up before I was even half way through my wrap. Though I wasn't too crazy about the consistency of the cabbage within the wrap, the dish was an overall success. It gave me a great amount of protein and I was extremely satisfied after.
